As part of Roche Diagnostics CPS Point of Care (POC), our department works on a variety of projects ranging from blood glucose measurements to the development of cardiac and coagulation assays. Located in Mannheim (around 1 hour from Frankfurt), the POC Analytics Subchapter supports products from early R&D stages to post-launch. We focus on developing and validating tailored methods for analyzing materials using rheology, particle characterization (PCS, TEM, SEM), surface analysis of plastics and coatings (XRF, NIR/IR, RAMAN), and addressing troubleshooting topics.

In this role, you will undertake tasks including:

• Developing methods based on new and existing technologies to evaluate raw materials, production intermediates, and final products of the POC portfolio.
• Documenting testing methodologies.
• Continuously analyzing and evaluating materials and products at all stages of development.
• Performing extensive light and laser microscopy analyses.
• Additionally, you may be involved in experiments with biopolymers, vibrational spectroscopy (IR/Raman), and keeping abreast of relevant patents, literature, and clinical studies. Regular updates and collaboration with a cross-functional team of scientists will be a key aspect of your work.

• A highly motivated student pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields.
• Interested and experienced in hands-on surface analytical methods, spectroscopy (UV/VIS, RAMAN, NIR, IR, XRF), microscopy (including SEM, laser scanning, fluorescence, and extensive light and laser microscopy), or surface tension, viscosity, and rheology.
• Familiar with statistical analysis, potentially with a programming language for data assessment (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, Origin).
• Skilled in technical writing (reports, documentation, SOPs).
• Fluent in English (German language skills are an advantage).
